Rock lovers and die-hard fans of one of the most successful rock bands of all time will soon have the chance to thrill to the sounds of Pink Floyd when Mel Botes, undoubtedly one of the most respected and most talented guitarists and songwriters in S.A., will take centrestage at café Roux on Thursday 29 February 2024. For over a decade renowned South African songwriter and guitarist, Mel Botes, has been recreating the classic 70s prog-rock sound of Pink Floyd for audiences across the country. Now, in a new revision of the show, Mel will be bringing to the stage a hand-picked selection from Pink Floyd’s catalogue of hits. Mel Botes with his genial talent has been entertaining audiences all over the country for numerous years with his critically acclaimed musical performance, “Crazy Diamond - A Tribute to Pink Floyd”. His brilliance as a guitar player has not limits in “Crazy Diamond” and music lovers are constantly swept off their feet. He has always acknowledged that Pink Floyd had a big influence on his music career, with their influence being evident in both his songwriting and style of playing and this can be seen in Mel Botes’ original works, “David’s Confession” and in “Flight of Bird”. He was in his element when he collaborated with Richard Nosworthy to bring “Crazy Diamond” to the stage. Audiences and critics agreed that he mastered the complexity and density of Floyd in a way that none of his other tribute shows have achieved.
Mel said, “This production has been a big challenge for me and a very valuable learning curve. It’s been a wonderful opportunity to use everything I’ve learned about playing music over 30 years to help me interpret Pink Floyd’s” music. Mel Botes will be joined on stage by the inimitable, talented and highly respected musician, Simon Orange on Hammond piano and vocals. Combining inspiration from the studio albums and iconic live productions, Mel Botes will be performing classics like \"Another brick in the wall\", \"Mother\", \"Comfortably numb\" and \"Wish you were here\" as well as earlier works from original Floyd member Syd Barrett. He will also be playing several tracks from the album \"The Dark Side of the Moon\" in the order they were originally recorded, in this scintillating musical journey.
Mel Botes will also be performing sections of his latest original work, entitled, “The River Symphony”. The album was developed over a period of 8 years and will be available to the public soon. The audience is encouraged to sing along during this never-to-be forgotten show and to search for that old Floyd T-shirt you once had!
