This year marks an extraordinary milestone in South African music: 50 years of Steve Newman’s professional musical journey. To honour this remarkable legacy, Newman takes the stage in a powerful trio collaboration alongside internationally acclaimed vocalist Angel Rose and visionary percussionist and Tabla maestro Nish Pillay.

Together, these three artists present an immersive musical experience that moves effortlessly across folk, world music, soul, and contemporary soundscapes, blending deep tradition with fearless innovation.

Steve Newman, legendary guitarist and founding member of the iconic band Tananas, is renowned for his distinctive acoustic style and his ability to weave African, Latin, and global influences into a sound that is instantly recognisable and deeply emotive. Over five decades, Steve has performed on stages across Europe, North America, and Asia, earning his place as one of South Africa’s most respected and influential musicians. His career has always been about more than virtuosity. It is about connection, collaboration, and cultural storytelling.

Joining him is Angel Rose, a powerhouse vocalist whose career reads like a who’s who of global music royalty. Angel has performed with legendary icons including Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock, Michael Jackson, Céline Dion, and Bruce Springsteen, and has headlined international stages as a solo artist worldwide. Her touring credits include collaborations with Queen Esther, the Harlem Gospel Choir, Broadway producer Chapman Roberts, and multiple world tours with The Sounds of The Supremes. Her television and film appearances include The Jay Leno Show, BET, The David Letterman Show, and the feature film The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby, starring Jessica Chastain and Viola Davis. Angel’s voice brings depth, soul, and world-class artistry to every performance.

Completing the trio is Nish Pillay, a distinguished percussionist whose mastery of the Tabla bridges South African and Indian musical traditions, seamlessly merging ancient rhythmic knowledge with modern technology and contemporary expression. Nish has performed extensively across South Africa and internationally, including tours in India, Kenya, Rwanda, and Sri Lanka, and has shared stages with artists such as Ben Harper (as part of The Jack Mantis Band). Known for constantly pushing artistic boundaries, Nish’s work transcends genre, culture, and convention. He is also deeply involved in social justice initiatives through the Harmony of Hands Ensemble, alongside Prof. Eugene Skeef, using music as a tool for dialogue, healing, and transformation.
