Come join the Irish South African Association in celebrating St Brigid’s Day 2026!

We’re looking forward to gathering to celebrate the unique Irish - South African connection, culture and community on Monday, 2 February, at 91 Bree Street (above Chefs Warehouse). Join us as we honour St. Brigid’s Day with an evening dedicated to celebrating and showcasing inspiring women, creativity, and fostering cultural connections.

Expect good people, meaningful moments and a wonderful blend of art, storytelling and connection - celebrating women as a force to inspire and unite across cultures.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Julie-Anne McDowell is an award-winning actress and writer from Northern Ireland whose work bridges stage, screen, and story with rare depth and grace. Trained at RADA and now based in South Africa, her career spans acclaimed theatrical performances and internationally celebrated films, including the multi-award-winning short The Hive, which earned her the Writers Guild of South Africa Muse Award.A storyteller in every sense, Julie-Anne’s work explores humanity, resilience, and creative courage—making her a powerful and fitting voice to join us in celebrating St. Brigid’s Day and the creative spirit of women.

MUSIC

The Nala Collective is a bold, female-led jazz collective reshaping South Africa’s contemporary jazz scene. Co-founded by drummer Tanatswa Pepukai, the group creates space for women instrumentalists to play freely, take risks, and be seen—challenging long-held gender norms within a traditionally male- dominated genre.Blending technical mastery with fresh energy and emotional depth, Nala’s sound is both rooted and forward-looking. Their music speaks to inclusivity, creative confidence, and a new generation of jazz—making them a powerful presence for St. Brigid’s Day, where creativity, courage, and women’s voices take centre stage.
