Born with haemophilia in Paarl, Jan survives his childhood against the odds to grow up and graduate from UCT, only to be struck by new tragedy – a contaminated blood transfusion, an HIV-positive diagnosis and “just four years to live”. Defying fate again, Jan survives to embark on a perilous journey in search of the long-lost family treasure – armed with his father’s hand-drawn map.
