Biography: The Morning After

Dirk Klut has been immersed in music for over two decades. A self-taught guitarist, Dirk honed his skills by mastering every track on Eric Clapton’s iconic Unplugged album, showcasing his relentless work ethic, dedication, and passion for music. When he’s not dazzling audiences with his guitar and vocal prowess, Dirk enjoys traveling, reading biographies, and handcrafting custom guitars. His sharp sense of style and stage presence, make him a standout in The Morning After.

Name an instrument, and Gerhard Oosthuizen can probably play it. As the bassist and occasional vocalist for The Morning After, Gerhard—or “G”—brings years of experience to the band. A seasoned musician who has performed with several popular South African acts, he teamed up with his best friend and business partner, Dirk, to form The Morning After. Beyond his musical talent, Gerhard is the operational mastermind of the band, with an uncanny knack for organizing and solving just about anything. Known for his infectious dad jokes and booming laughter, G’s sense of humour is a cornerstone of the band’s camaraderie.

Breaking every unflattering stereotype about drummers, Shannon Sutherland- Clark is a punctual, disciplined, and technically skilled musician. A SAMA award-winning artist, Shannon’s drumming is the heartbeat of The Morning After. Offstage, he’s an avid golfer with a 5-handicap, the band’s resident clown, and a real-life Bob the Builder who can fix just about anything. Shannon’s energy and enthusiasm bring both rhythm and levity to the band.

Together, The Morning After delivers performances that are equal parts nostalgia and high-energy entertainment, earning their reputation as one of South Africa’s premier bands!
