Big Sky, the South African band founded by Steve Louw after All Night Radio’s dissolution, quickly established a unique blend of rock, folk, and blues. Driven by Louw’s soulful vocals and evocative songwriting, Big Sky functioned as his personal creative outlet, featuring a rotating cast of musicians both local and international. This collaborative structure fostered a dynamic and evolving sound throughout the band’s existence. Their 1990 debut, “Waiting For The Dawn,” propelled them to fame with hits like the title track and “Slow Dancing,” exploring themes of love, loss, and social commentary relevant to South Africa’s socio-political climate.

Through the 1990s, albums like “Horizon” (1995) and “Going Down With Mister Green” (1997) cemented Big Sky’s position as a leading South African rock act, earning accolades such as the 1996 FNB Music Award for Best South African Rock Act. While the band continued releasing music into the 2000s with albums like “Beyond The Blue” (2002) and “Trancas Canyon” (2008), Louw shifted focus in 2021 with his solo album, “Headlight Dreams,” produced by Kevin Shirley. Embracing online streaming, Louw aimed for a global audience, followed by “Thunder And Rain” (2022) and the double album “Between Time” (2024), demonstrating his ongoing musical journey and expanded reach.
