Delheim Mushroom

Mushroom lovers and nature enthusiasts will have the opportunity to experience a day dedicated to foraging for wild mushrooms in the forests of our renowned wine estate in Stellenbosch with an expert guide, as well as experiencing various culinary delights accompanied by the Estate’s award-winning wines. Delheim’s mountain pine forests are home to over 20 species of wild mushrooms, and on Friday, 14, and Saturday, 15 June and with now two extra days added due to high demand - Friday 4 & Saturday 5 July, our well-known wine farm on Stellenbosch’s Simonsberg ward will be welcoming new and experienced mushroom foragers to get out and collect their mushrooms, after which a delicious lunch with Delheim wines will be offered in the restaurant.

Each of the days’ programmes comprises a practical guide to mushroom identification followed by a foraging session in the Delheim woods. The day ends with a mushroom-inspired lunch, and there are also plenty of opportunities to taste and enjoy the estate’s range of exceptional wines. The daily mushroom immersion will begin with an introduction by mushroom specialist Gary Goldman while guests enjoy coffee, gluhwein, muffins, and rusks. After an informative guide to mushroom identification, mushroom soup will be served to muster the senses in the right direction. Afterward, Goldman will lead the popular foraging voyage in the Delheim forest on the slopes of Stellenbosch’s majestic Simonsberg. Note that we cannot guarantee the discovery of any specific mushrooms. For the forage, dress for possible chilly weather – a rain jacket and good walking/hiking boots or shoes. Bring a basket and a small pocket knife for collecting.

The foraging session is to be followed by lunch in a unique setting in our cellar where the team will be offering dishes based on the textures and flavours of the magic that is the mushroom. Guests will also receive copies of some of Delheim’s family recipes offering a variety of methods for the preparing and cooking of mushrooms.

Tickets for each event are R1 000 for Adults. A limited amount of young enthusiasts, ages 6 - 17, are welcome at each event at R850 per ticket. These are available on Quicket and are not refundable. Please note each event is limited to only 40 pax.
