Trauma-Informed Care for Children Who Have Experienced Abuse: A Practical Guide for Helping Professionals
Duration: 1-day in-person workshop (±8 hours)Provider: Jelly Beanz Foundation
Overview:
Children who have experienced abuse carry invisible wounds that can shape their behaviour, relationships, and development. As professionals, our response can either help to heal or unintentionally cause further harm. This CPD-accredited, one-day in-person workshop provides you with a clear, practical framework for embedding trauma-informed care into everyday practice with children.Grounded in neuroscience, child protection legislation, and evidence-based strategies, this training is both interactive and skills- focused, ensuring participants leave with tools they can immediately apply in their work with children and families.
What you will learn:
By the end of the training, you will be able to:Understand ACEs and trauma types, and recognise trauma responses in children.Apply the principles of trauma-informed care (safety, trust, empowerment, cultural humility).Interpret behaviours through a neurobiological lens and support regulation.Show up for children with relational presence, attunement, and co-regulation strategies.Use grounding techniques to help children (and yourself) manage overwhelming moments.Navigate ethical responsibilities in line with South African child protection laws.Address cultural and systemic trauma while sustaining your own wellbeing in the face of vicarious trauma.
