Artists across the Western Cape are invited to attend a free two-day Intellectual Property (IP) and Music Industry Workshop at George High School this December.

This event will bring together leading voices in South Africa’s creative industries to share practical knowledge and insights to help artists build sustainable, successful careers.

Mhlanganisi Masoga

A seasoned policy development professional with significant senior leadership experience dedicated to the development and growth of the Creative Industries within the South African public sector.

Deeply rooted in the Arts and Education sectors, possessing expertise in Music Education, curriculum development, project management for cultural programs, and driving policy advocacy for creative enterprises.

Masoga has led the development of major strategic documents, including the Gauteng Music Industry Strategic Framework, Gauteng Visual Arts Strategy, and the National Creative Industries Masterplan.

He is experienced in facilitating and presenting at workshops on Intellectual Property (IP) for SMMEs. Delivered presentations on the Importance of IP for SMEs and Copyright and Related Rights.

Masoga is currently the Director for Local Economic Development at the national Department of Small Business Development, following his stint as Director Cultural and Creative Industries at the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition from 2012 -2014 and Gauteng Department of Sports, Arts and Culture from 2008 -2012.

Brendan (Spike) BallantinePodcast and audio production professional with extensive experience in branded podcast creation, content development, editing, mixing, and sound design. Brendan brings creative originality and technical expertise to every project, from concept to completion.

Martin MyersFounder of Music Exchange (MEX) and host of The Business of Entertainment on CapeTalk (567 AM).Since May 2023, Martin has hosted this weekly show, attracting over 103,000 listeners. Each episode features award- winning creatives and industry leaders sharing valuable insights into the business of entertainment.

“We unpack what it really takes to make a living in this space,” says Myers. A UCT graduate and founder of the non-profit Music Exchange (MEX), Martin Myers has spent more than 30 years in the entertainment industry. Formerly with BMG/Sony Music, for 17 years he has dedicated his career to artist development, music management, and public relations.
