John Maytham, well-known and highly respected Cape Talk presenter and an actor who trained at Rhodes University, teams up with multiple award-winning playwright, Mike van Graan (My Fellow South Africans, When Swallows Cry, Green Man Flashing) to present a staged reading of a new one-person script, To Life, With Love.

Thomas Michael Faulkner is in his mid-sixties. He has experienced love, professional success, personal loss and social affirmation, much like most people. Thomas is diagnosed with a dread disease. There is a great chance of recovery, but he is reminded of his mortality. With many good years ahead, Thomas makes choices about how he will live and informs his family about his end-of-life wishes. To Life, With Love has been described as a ‘love letter to life’, a ‘captivating and riveting piece’ and ‘a play that all parents should see with their children to catalyse difficult but necessary discussions’. To Life, With Love is a poetic reflection on the highs, the challenges and especially, the gift of life. This moving piece with its dashes of humour and its life-affirming themes that will resonate with many, and is a performed reading (the script is an integral part of the ‘love-letter’ play).

Audience members will be invited to provide their feedback to the reading which will be considered and integrated into the further development of the script.
