John Battersby performed for many years around South Africa and abroad in the Indie-rock inspired band Red Tape Riot. After a short hiatus from the local music scene, he reached out to friends and fellow musical cohorts to participate in a new musical endeavour titled ‘John Battersby Band’. John Battersby Band is made up of John himself on Vocals and Guitar, Marc Klein (Red Tape Riot) on Drums, Guitarist Tristan Bell (BRYNN) and CJ Duckitt on Bass Murray). The experience of this group of musicians is exemplified in their professional approach to production and performance. John Battersby Band at its core, feeds off John’s prolific songwriting since the start of 2022 when he returned to the scene and started putting the full 4 piece outfit together.

Cherry Vynil is an Indie Rock band founded in Cape Town in June 2008. The band made its debut at the V&A Waterfront shortly after its formation. Their debut album, “Busking Cape Town,” was released in 2015. Over the years, Cherry Vynil has released several singles, including “Simunye - We are one” (2020), “Lights” (2021), and “Townshipjazz” (2024). “In a time that calls for unity and solidarity in the face of an unprecedented challenge, Cherry Vynil’s ‘Simunye’ reminded me of legendary figures like Johnny Clegg, who used their art to contribute to a better society,” stated Rhodé Marshall in City Press
