Known as the “founder of the French Flute School”, Paul Taffanel helped shape modern flute pedagogy, performance style, and repertoire. Like many flautists, Anthonie first encountered Taffanel through his technical studies, but his admiration deepened through the music dedicated to him; most notably Fauré’s Fantaisie and Widor’s Suite for Flute and Piano. . While technically demanding, these works reveal the subtlety and colour of French impressionist writing for the flute.Joined by renowned pianist and organist Winand Grundling, Anthonie will also perform works by Taffanel’s student Philippe Gaubert, including Madrigal, Romance, and Sicilienne. The program will conclude with the premiere of a new composition by Anthonie, written in the spirit of this rich Franco-romantic tradition.
