The setting has been updated to a post-modern city named Verona Beach, controlled by rival gangs the Capulets and the Montagues. Juliet, a Capulet, on the occasion of a costume ball thrown by her parents, meets Romeo, a Montague, and the two fall in love, with tragic consequences.
