At 89 years young, South Africa’s most beloved satirist, Evita Bezuidenhout, remains as irreverent, insightful, and hilarious as ever. Since 1981, as the self-appointed Ambassador to Bapetikosweti, she has been at the center of South Africa’s political and social evolution—from the chalk of the National Party to the cheese of the ANC.

Now, still lurking in the political kitchen of Luthuli House, Tannie Evita has plenty to say about the state of the nation, the future of democracy, and the dramas of our time. With last year’s general elections leaving the ANC in a fragile position, she’s not holding back—but of course, always with a generous serving of wit and charm.
