Old Nectar Concerts welcomes acclaimed violinist Suzanne Martens, cellist Peter Martens, and pianist Filippo Gorini for a sublime afternoon of chamber music at Old Nectar gardens historic wine cellar in Jonkershoek.

This intimate concert opens with one of Haydn’s radiant Piano Trios in A-flat major (Hob XV), a work brimming with wit, elegance and classical charm. The programme culminates in Schubert’s deeply expressive Piano Trio in B-flat major, Op. 99, a lively, buoyant work and a masterpiece of unrivalled Romantic lyricism.

Suzanne and Peter Martens need little introduction to Stellenbosch audiences. Suzanne Martens is a distinguished violinist, currently serving as Chair of the Music Department at Stellenbosch University, where she also lectures in violin. She is a regular guest concertmaster of the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra. Peter Martens, principal cellist of the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, is also Director of the Stellenbosch International Chamber Music Festival and lectures in cello at Stellenbosch University. Together, their artistry and leadership have made a profound impact on South Africa’s classical music landscape.

Filippo Gorini’s visit to Cape Town forms part of his ambitious international project, Sonata for 7 Cities (2025–2027) — a series of global residencies with artistic, educational, and philanthropic aims. Cape Town marks the second stop in this inspiring journey and Filippo’s very first performance on African soil. An internationally acclaimed pianist who has performed at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall and La Scala, Gorini is especially committed during his stay to meaningful engagement with local communities, collaborations with South African musicians, and exploring the city’s rich musical heritage — giving back all the music he can through performance, exchange, and shared inspiration.
