Old Nectar Concerts welcomes the Baxter Trio featuring three of Cape Town’s finest musicians: pianist Francois du Toit, violinist Farida Bacharova and cellist Graham du Plessis at Old Nectar gardens historic wine cellar in Jonkershoek.

The Baxter Trio takes its name from their home base at the South African College of Music, UCT, where all three members are on faculty. As soloists, they have each performed with major South African orchestras and are celebrated chamber musicians in their own right. As an ensemble, the Trio has performed for the La Motte Concert Series, Cape Town Concert Series, and the Cape Chamber Music Collective, and appeared in China in September 2023, where they also gave performances and masterclasses.

Together, they present a vibrant and eclectic selection of works that traverse romance, drama, and jazz-inspired flair—carefully chosen for both contrast and coherence. Their recital features Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio No. 2, full of Romantic lyricism and spirited interplay; Rachmaninoff’s Élégie in E-flat minor, arranged for piano trio, showcasing the composer’s lush harmonic language; and Schoenfield’s Café Music, a witty fusion of classical and jazz idioms inspired by the atmosphere of an elegant restaurant pianist.

Join us for a richly varied and expertly performed programme from one of South Africa’s foremost chamber ensembles to end off our 2025 concert season at Old Nectar.

The concert on Sunday 2 November 2025 starts at 4pm and will last approximately 2 hours. Tickets are R200 per person and include selected wines from Banhoek’s renowned Oldenburg Wine Estate and finger food at interval. Student / learner tickets are offered at R50 per concert at the door. Guests are invited to come early or stay after the concert to enjoy the tranquility of the Old Nectar gardens.
