More on Happy Tails Langa:
Katja Mobitz founded Happy Tails three years ago whilst working in Langa in her day job in the film industry. She came across a severely neglected and malnourished stray dog, ready to give birth.Tracking down 12-year old Emihle, who was feeding his own supper to the dog, she discovered that the boy was desperately trying to look after several strays and puppies based on his deep love for animals. This incidient kick started the project, which is presently a registered NPO and is making the world of difference in a most needy environment. Langa has no dedicated animal welfare agency and is served by only a few volunteer groups and mobile SPCA intervention.
Katja and her small band of Happy Tails volunteers spend countless hours in Langa, supplying kennels, food, giving medical assistance, including tick and flea treatment, wound care, sterilization, and sadly, in the most desperate cases, euthanization by the SPCA. COuntless dogs have been given a new lease on life due to her tireless work and the intervention she is able to bring to bear.A continuous stream of sick, abandoned and abused dogs are reported and collected by a group of Langa youngsters who has become fully involved with and are a critical part of the project.
These young kids are true warriors in their society and receive ongoing education from Katja - a unique approach and success story in terms of animal rescue.Emergency fostering, adoption, medical assistance and sterilizations, linking widely with all CT rescue groups, fundraising and most important education of dog owners in the Langa area takes immense input and dedication. Happy Tails Langa is vital in a community where mere survival by dogs is endemic and heartbreaking.
Every successful adoption is a cause for major celebration and inspires this group of volunteers to continue!
Become a part of this beautiful and ongoing story where communities are coming together to take care of man’s best friends!
