Shimmering Wilderness: Drawing on Nature for Creative Inspiration

We are often so busy working, analysing, or worrying that we forget to stop and breathe, to look at the world and just enjoy being alive and part of nature. Our creativity connects us to the natural world and its wildness, chaos, seasons, and vitality. Creating art inspired by nature allows us to connect more deeply with the wilderness around us and the wildness inside us.

This is a guided invitation to explore your creativity and imagination, inspired by nature. We’ll explore different ways to see and experience nature, as well as practical methods to express these experiences through art. We will use art media such as charcoal, pencil, and pastels to create some personal artworks and will share these experiences in a relaxed, supportive space. No prior art experience is necessary, just your openness and enthusiasm to explore your creativity together!

Bring your own snacks and refreshments, or grab something before or after from the restaurant at The Commons.4. We will be working on art boards and sitting on the floor on cushions, not at tables or easels, so please bring cushions to get comfy on, and maybe a blanket to put down first. We will have a few chairs available in case anyone needs them.5. Your ticket helps fund Branch Out’s youth conservation adventures, connecting young people to nature through hands-on experiences.

About the facilitator Marc:Art and music have always been close to my heart, and being creative is a large part of my life and meaning. As a science editor, I focus on an academic approach to understanding the world, while in my art I’m inspired by bringing creativity, imagination, and nature together and seeing what grows.

About Branch Out: Branch Out is a youth-driven conservation organisation based in Cape Town, dedicated to inspiring and empowering young adults (18+) to connect with nature and take action to protect it. Our mission is to empower young people to connect with nature and make a tangible impact on their environment through meaningful conservation adventures.

What We Do: We organise impactful conservation events like beach clean-ups, botany hikes, and ecological restoration projects. These activities are built on our three core pillars: Learn, Serve, and Connect. Through hands-on experiences, we empower young people to learn real-world conservation skills and deepen their understanding of nature. By actively serving the environment through meaningful projects, participants make a tangible impact on local ecosystems. And throughout all our adventures, we foster opportunities to connect—with nature, with like-minded peers, and with a shared sense of purpose.
