Consider this your official invite to the most low key, high quality birthday party of the year. Craig Lucas is celebrating his 33rd birthday on 21 December with a one night only intimate show at Outlore Base in Cape Town. With very limited seats, the night is designed to feel close, relaxed and a little bit like you have been invited into his bedroom… if his bedroom had great lighting and a three piece band.

Joined by top Cape Town musicians on keys, trumpet and guitar, Craig will perform stripped back and reimagined versions of songs like Hearts Exposed, Happy, Smother, Falling in Love, Better, Purple Rain and his newest single 1989. He will also share the songs that have shaped his writing over the years, plus debut brand new unreleased music from his upcoming project for the first time.

Expect a mix of honesty, humour and a few stories Craig has probably never shared on stage before (and with good reason). And yes, he might even mention that incident with that one guy that one time when… actually, never mind. You will have to come to the show for that one.

The night brings together the parts of Craig people rarely get to see: the songwriter, the performer, the human who still cannot believe he has been blessed enough to do this for eight years. It is a celebration of how far he has come and the people who helped him get there. Basically, a birthday concert disguised as group therapy with better music.

He will also be joined by Dean de Jongh, a talented guitarist, songwriter, artist and friend, who will open the night.Come ready to sing, laugh, enjoy a couple of drinks and maybe even shed a tear. Nights like this have a way of turning audiences into friends… or at least into people who know far too much about Craig Lucas against their will. Feel free to block him after the show.
