KORTFILMPROJEK – Gevestigde filmmakers | SHORT FILM PROJECT - Established filmmakers
This category, which offers established filmmakers funding and a platform to showcase their craft at the festival, is part of the festival for the second time this year. A condition for participation in the category is that the filmmakers mentor less-experienced team members.

Selina’s comforting presence in the Swanepoel household has been taken for granted for many years. She is much more than just a domestic worker – she is like family. When she mysteriously falls ill, the Swanepoels are confronted with unfamiliar emotions. A visit to Selina in her own home confronts the Swanepoels with a world they don’t know.
ONAFHANKLIKE KORTFILMS | INDEPENDENT SHORT FILMS
The Silwerskerm Festival is proud to expand its offering of independent short films. Traditionally the majority of short films screened at the festival was initiated, financed and mentored by the Silwerskermfees Short Film Project. This year, the festival boasts more independent short films by local filmmakers in a variety of genres and indigenous South African languages.

Em returns home and hands her mother an envelope with a letter for her to read. But instead of addressing the letter, her mother steers the conversation to her wish for Em to move back home and take over their little family store. Em refuses, and in response, Ma recites a poem about wandering souls, deflecting yet again from the subject causing a divide between them. Torn between giving in and standing her ground, Em imagines two possible paths for herself, each one heavy with the emotions of their strained relationship and all the things left unsaid.
