GERATEC and the HSFA have a new 12-part educational series titled Ageing Optimally: Embracing the Journey Ahead. These workshops are designed to empower and educate older persons, caregivers, family members, and professionals working with elders. Workshops will take place in person at HSFA Vonke Park, every second Tuesday of the month, starting in June 2025 and running through May 2026. As before, all proceeds will be donated to HSFA. Join us for 12 workshops on the second Tuesday of every month at HSFA, 121 Lourensford Road, Somerset West,. All attendees will receive notes and handouts. Refreshments will be served. Workshops run from 14:00 - 15:00, with the Let’s Talk support/knowledge-sharing group taking place from 15:00 - 16:00. We invite caregivers and family members who support loved ones to join us in sharing insights.

Workshop 3 Maintaining Your Well-being into Elderhood Date: 12 August 2025 Exploring holistic models of well-being and offering strategies for maintaining health, purpose, and connection in later life. Workshop 4 What is Ageing in Place? Date: 9 September 2025 Understanding the concept of ageing in place, evaluating options, and creating personalised living plans. Workshop 5 MESH: Move | Eat | Sleep | Heal Date: 14 October 2025 Presenting science-based lifestyle interventions to promote vitality and independence among older adults. Workshop 6 Dying with Dignity: Practical Advice & Guidance Date: 11 November 2025 A compassionate discussion on end-of-life planning, palliative care, and emotional support. Workshop 7 Legal and Financial Advice for Elderhood Date: 9 December 2025 Practical information on wills, estate planning, retirement, and protecting against elder abuse. Workshop 8 Empowering Caregivers and Families Date: 13 January 2026 Strategies and tools for supporting caregivers, strengthening families, and enhancing the care journey. Workshop 9 Integration into Assisted Living Date: 10 February 2026 Preparing emotionally and practically for the transition into assisted living, including family roles and resident voices. Workshop 10 Supporting a Parent’s Move to Aged Care Date: 10 March 2026 Guidance on navigating conversations, legal rights, downsizing, and family communication during transitions. Workshop 11 Strengthening Ties: Building Resilient Ageing Communities Date: 14 April 2026 Insights into community-building, intergenerational engagement, and sustainable elder support networks. Workshop 12 Celebrating Elderhood in South Africa Date: 12 May 2026 A reflective and celebratory session, reviewing the series and embracing the future of ageing in South Africa.
